Words matter.
Scripture tells us in Proverbs 18:21,
"Life and death are in the power of the tongue".
This includes written words, spoken words, and even our thoughts that we tell ourself.
I have been thinking how powerful this is and the opportunity we have to choose what we type, say, or think.
I don't think the well known phrase "sticks and stones may break my bones, but words will never hurt me" is accurate.
Quite the contrary.
Words stick long after they are said, written, or thought.
Whether good or bad.
They linger.
We could all recall a compliment that made our day or maybe impacted us on a deeper level, but the same could be true of hurtful ones. Settling deep into our spirit that is hard to get past.
I know as a mother and as a wife once, I haven't always chose the best words and I wish I could go back and do better. But looking forward may God give me the wisdom to speak life into my circle. Into Reese. Into my grown kids. Into my grands. Even into those I may come in contact with on a daily basis.
Especially for Christians. We are called to be different. Not perfect, but noticeably different.
This world is hard enough with its trials and tribulations that we need "words of LIFE".
And praise God there is always forgiveness and mercy from God when we don't do this well. And even better, scripture tells us when we ask forgiveness, our sins are far from us.
Psalm 103:8-12
[8] The LORD is merciful and gracious,
slow to anger and abounding in steadfast love.
[9] He will not always chide,
nor will he keep his anger forever.
[10] He does not deal with us according to our sins,
nor repay us according to our iniquities.
[11] For as high as the heavens are above the earth,
so great is his steadfast love toward those who fear him;
[12] as far as the east is from the west,
so far does he remove our transgressions from us.
